  Yesterday was Hogmanay or the Noche Vieja as it is called in Spain, the final day of the year. The Pilgrims’ Office was due to close at 2pm and at 1.50pm I extracted the numbers for the year to report them to you. No sooner had the database produced the goods when the door opened and the last two pilgrims of the year arrived. Meet Ana and Marta from Portugal who had walked 5 days from Ourense to spend New Year in Santiago. Congratulations girls!

  They aren’t included in the statistics nor is the handful of pilgrims who arrived later yesterday and who received their Compostelas in the sacristy of the cathedral. They will be added to the annual statistics which will be published later in the year after all of the data for the year is reviewed. So this is a preliminary glimpse of the figures. Enjoy.
